New release, Fall 2025
Edition: 1000 unique artworks
From the tiniest quantum thread to the flamenco guitarist’s passionate strum, strings are everywhere. They bind us. They guide us. They whisper and roar inside us. Grab that string and strike it!
A string fixed at both ends vibrates when plucked. The vibration sets the surrounding air into motion, creating sound waves. The pitch of the note you hear is mainly determined by length & tension. A shorter string have a higher pitch. A tigher string, gives faster vibrations, which also leads to a higher pitch.
By bending a string, you increase the tension of the string which also leads to a higher frequency. If you grab a string closer to the end points you can hear a slightly higher pitch which glides back to it's main pitch. You can also see this on the string animation how it moves towards the center, most recognisable on the longer strings.
The different artworks have different tunings and sound. Their main sound is made from a sine, triangle, square or sawtooth wave. It is then shaped by one of three different effects: Vibrato, tremolo or filter. Lastly it is played through a light reverb.
« If you wish to understand the universe, think of energy, frequency, and vibration »
— Nikola Tesla
The strings are attached to a grid which spans from 3x3 to 15x15. There is always a main string that divide the artwork in two sections. Strings are then attached on both sides depending on available space. Each endpoint is filled white white, black or a color.
The faded colors came about when I found an old drawing of Mickey Mouse, black and white with red pants and Pluto by his side. I remember being a kid, lying in our caravan during summer holidays, reading comic books. Such wonderful nostalgic feelings!
The artworks comes in yellow, red, green, blue & pink combinded with a white or black side. There are also black, white and gray variants.
The collection opens up for easy ways to pair two or more artworks. Combine different colors, grid sizes or align the long string over several artworks. There are many variants to explore. See a few examples below:
